Nov 27 (Reuters) - Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd (0293.HK) is leaning towards placing an order for around six Airbus (AIR.PA) A350 freighters as the Hong Kong carrier renews the oldest section of its fleet of dedicated 747 cargo jets, industry sources said. Airbus and Boeing had no immediate comment. Industry sources have said the competition pointed to an initial purchase of around half a dozen aircraft, worth some $2 billion at list prices before traditional airline discounts. Cathay Pacific told analysts in August it was looking at freighters and "continuing to study various opportunities". On Friday, it told analysts cargo demand had softened but was "still much higher than pre-pandemic times".

PARIS, May 29 (Reuters) - Cathay Pacific (0293.HK) is close to placing an order for Boeing (BA.N) 777-8F freighters as the Hong Kong carrier embarks on the partial renewal of a fleet of 747 cargo jets, industry sources said on Monday. The selection follows a competition for around half a dozen aircraft between the cargo version of Boeing's 777X jetliner family and the Airbus (AIR.PA) A350F freighter, they said. A Boeing spokesperson declined to comment. Cathay Pacific did not immediately reply to a request for comment. So the couple sold their home in the Netherlands and bought a secondhand monohull boat to "live and travel the world." Lisa Terauchi-D'RozarioThe family first sailed to France, then to Spain and Portugal, before reaching Sardinia, she said. While living at sea, her family used a water maker to turn seawater into drinking water, she said. The family checked weather forecasts often but, Lisa said, they still encountered situations they were not prepared for.
Hong Kong CNN —Cathay Pacific Airways said Tuesday it had fired three cabin crew members after a passenger complained of discrimination on a flight from mainland China, an incident that angered Hong Kong officials and underscored the pressure on the city’s flag carrier to please Beijing. In a statement late Tuesday announcing the dismissals, Cathay Pacific (CPCAY) CEO Ronald Lam said he would personally lead a task force to improve service and avoid similar incidents in the future. Inato, which matches pharma companies with hospitals for clinical trials, just landed $20 million. Three months after raising $14 million in Series A funding in February 2020, Inato's founders realized they were making the wrong product. The Paris-based startup was founded in 2016 to help pharmaceutical companies find the right sites to conduct their clinical trials. Now, pharma companies post their clinical trials onto Inato's platform, and sites can apply for the trials they're interested in. Inato provided Insider with the pitch deck it used to raise $20 million in Series A-2 funding.
Sponsored by Hong Kong's airport authority, the giveaway involves the distribution of 500,000 airline tickets via three of the city's carriers: Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, and Hong Kong Express. Those interested need to apply for a free Cathay Pacific membership on its website and answer three quiz questions about Cathay Pacific correctly, according to SCMP. Budget carrier Hong Kong Express is slated to join the campaign later, but it hasn't released details. Hong Kong Airlines did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment.

HONG KONG, Nov 9 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Cathay Pacific’s (0293.HK) new boss has reason for optimism. The outgoing chief executive can flash a half-decent report card. He navigated the Air China- (601111.SS) and Swire Pacific-backed (0019.HK) company through backlash from Beijing after employees took part in the 2019 Hong Kong protests. The $6 billion airline has seen a modest rebound of travellers since Hong Kong dropped hotel quarantine requirements. Since Tang’s appointment in August 2019, Cathay has logged a negative total return of 16%.
Hong Kong CNN Business —International airlines are scrambling to add more flights to Hong Kong as the city ends two and a half years of quarantine measures, leading to a surge in demand for travel. “As Hong Kong’s home airline, we are fully committed to rebuilding the connectivity of the Hong Kong aviation hub,” it said in a statement. This will absolutely increase the demand for travel to and from Hong Kong,” Christoph Meyer, Lufthansa’s general manager of sales for Hong Kong, Macao and South China, said in a statement. International Air Transport Association Director General Willie Walsh said last week that China’s zero-Covid policy had “devastated” Hong Kong. Friday’s news puts Hong Kong back on “the right track,” said Dr. Kam Hung Ng, assistant professor of aviation engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
